VISITING THE CATHEDRAL

The cathedral is currently open to visitors between the hours of 10:30 and 13:00 every Saturday throughout the year. Aside from this, and from the programme of services to which visitors are very welcome, the cathedral is open throughout the summer months, from the start of May until the second week of September. During these months, the cathedral is open from Tuesdays to Fridays, between 11:00 and 16:00. Visitors or pilgrims who wish to see the cathedral at any other stage throughout are the year are kindly asked to contact the Cathedral Administrator, who will be delighted to organise an appointment to see the building. During the summer months, the cathedral is staffed by a dedicated group of welcomers and guides, who will be pleased to provide information about any aspect of cathedral life. Hand-held cathedral guides are currently available in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish. Entry to the cathedral is always free, but we would be delighted with any donation which the visitor sees appropriate; this contributes to the upkeep and development of the cathedral.

Due to the small scale of the cathedral in comparison to some others, its location is not always apparent; a map is therefore shown to the right, with the location denoted by the red star. The cathedral is located on King Street, at the southern junction next to the Castlegate. The cathedral lies only one minute's walk from the eastern end of Union Street. The cathedral is also situated within easy walking distance of the railway station and the bus station, both of which are situated on Guild Street. The cathedral is served well by local buses also: the prominent and frequent 'Red Line' (nos. 1 & 2) can be boarded around every five minutes, and stops at the Castlegate square bus stop, located just around the corner from the cathedral. Bus numbers 6, 14, 15, 23 and 11 all stop directly outside the West Door of the cathedral, which provides easy links around the city to Foresterhill, Kincorth, the beach, Footdee, the University of Aberdeen, Bridge of Don, Dubford, Heathryfold, Summerhill, Hilton, Craigiebuckler, Seaton and the golf links.
