Cathedral at Noon
The cathedral is proud to host a series of concerts unparalleled across the United Kingdom, which features Saturday lunchtime music every single week of the year. 'Cathedral at Noon' lunchtime concerts are approximately thirty minutes in duration, featuring a buffet lunch served afterwards in the South Aisle. Admission is free, but donations are gratefully received towards the running of the cathedral music department. The current focus is towards the purchase of a new grand piano, which will add further breadth and vigour to the scope of cathedral concerts. 'Cathedral at Noon' features a broadly varied program, with flyers produced in 14-week blocks. Organ music features frequently, and with good reason; the cathedral is proud of its Hill, Norman and Beard organ, which is very much rooted in the Anglican cathedral style. Top students from the University of Aberdeen and from local schools are regular features at concerts, as are choirs and solo instrumentalists from across the city, the nation, and from abroad also. Cathedral at Night
In addition to the weekly 'Cathedral at Noon' concerts held on Saturdays, the cathedral is to begin shortly the inauguration of the 'Cathedral at Night' series, where music will feature on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 8pm. Future concerts will showcase the University Madrigal Choir, George Chittenden performing 'La Nativite du Seigneur' by Messiaen, and the baritone George Emney singing Vaughan Williams' 'Songs of Travel'. These evening concerts will add a further breadth to the cathedral's already vibrant musical scene. Please do refer back to this area of the cathedral website for more detailed information and scheduling which will follow very shortly.
